Blue Bamboo

Acrylic and Ink on canvas.

I really like the simplicity of this one.  Very serene.  The difficult part in this type of painting is holding back.

I'm going to be posting artwork here once a week for the foreseeable future.  Nevertheless, you can catch me on my other blog everyday for mostly non-art related stuff.

New Blog

I have today started a new blog called Loves, Life and Doodles, in which I shall be writing reviews to things, perhaps posting doodles and old artwork and just generally going on about life or whatever is on my mind.

I did this partly because I feel a hiatus approaching for this blog over Christmas.  I would like to maintain my online presence, but I don't want to fill this blog with any old thing.  A new blog will allow me to keep posting and will hopefully give me the incentive to maintain this blog better, which I did not do this year.

So if you are interested, pop over to Loves, Life and Doodles.

Ooops...

Ah.  I forgot to upload some more of my paintings, again.  I'll try and get that sorted before Friday.  I am also hoping to get started on yet another different direction for my art.  Going back more to the roots of my artwork and trying to expand upon doodling.  I haven't done significant amounts of doodles in a long time and I have some - perhaps nostalgically idealised - of my most creative moments when doodling.  From the doodles, I hope some good ideas will appear for paintings.

I hope to get some more paintings uploaded for Friday.

Orchid

Acrylic and Ink on canvas.

I sometimes buy packs of canvas' for economies sake and I am left with plenty of small canvas' I hadn't been sure how to use.  I also, a while ago, got some Chinese Ink Brush bits and bobs that I hadn't been able to use much (due to space constraints).  Although the technique should really be applied to paper, I think this is an interesting style and works well on canvas.

Moonlight River

Acrylic on canvas.

Revisiting an idea that wasn't fully realised in a previous painting.  All in all, I think this painting was a success and I especially like the twisting bark of the foreground tree that came about entirely by accident.

Shining In

Acrylic on canvas.

This painting is the first for a new direction I decided to take.  I had many comments on the fairytale/magical atmosphere some of my previous paintings have and I decided to try and exploit that concept.  I gave considerable thought to colour and light sources in this painting and certainly achieved some of my goals.  Some ideas weren't realised as well as I could have hoped, so I revisited them in a later painting.

Dusk at the Beach

Acrylic on canvas.

I really could not have been more happy with how this painting turned out.  I have never attempted clouds of such a dynamic nature before.  The beach was a real challenge as well.  Nearly everything in this painting was an experiment for me and I've never had all the pieces fall into place so smoothly before.  Certainly one of my personal favourites to date.
